The Friends of the Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings Farm set off in the early Spring of 2010 for the Ocala National Forest to visit the sites that inspired scenes in The Yearling, such as the seeping springs where young Jody made his fluttermill, the old homesite with its nearby sinkhole where he drew water for his mother, and Hopkins Prairie where his father fought the mighty bear, Ol' Slewfoot.
Here are some impressions of the 2010 Scrub Trip, featuring readings from the classic story.
